Open & Eclectic Encinitas Home
A beautiful living room and bathroom remodel for a fun-loving South African family.
At our Christmas party two years ago, I was approached by close family friends. They were tired of their cramped, non-functional living room and wanted some ideas for how to open things up. I visited their home the next day, Boxing Day, and we came up with a solution.
When the client's Chinese business partners visited 18 months later, they were proud to entertain their guests in the new living room!

Work Done
As often happens, the scope of work increased almost as fast as I worked! We ended up renovating the living room by removing the fireplace and adding a HUGE multi-slider door. We refinished the deck, gutted the upstairs bathroom, replaced windows in the office, and replaced the old furnace.
Priorities
The existing living room was unusable. It did not take advantage of the beautiful, second-story view and the fireplace was in the way of any logical seating arrangement. We wanted the room to feel open and continuous with the deck. Welcoming and hospitable for gatherings large and small.
The upstairs bathroom was tiny and very cramped. You had to turn sideways to get to the toilet! We rearranged everything in that bathroom to give the client a huge shower and beautiful, usable vanity.
