What Do House Plans Look Like?
What should a set of plans (aka blueprints) look like?
Trick question! There is no standard way that a set of plans should look.
Each architect or designer has their own style.
At Meldrum Design, each set of plans is customized to the individual project.
What’s included in a plan set depends on:
client preferences
my trust in the contractor
permit requirements
the type of project (residential or commercial, new build or renovation, high performance or not, etc)
Here’s what may be included in a Meldrum Design plan set:
(I’m so nervous to show these because my drawings are always changing, but what’s life without a little risk? 😁)
Not shown above:
Demolition Floor Plans
As-built Floor Plans
3D Model
Assembly Details (clarifying waterproofing, insulation, air control layers, etc)
Also… Depending on the project, I may include:
Interior Design (material recommendations and/or drawings)
Construction Administration (site visits during construction)
And… Commercial or Multi-Family Residential Projects may require:
Life Safety Plan
Fire Rating Details
ADA Details
Cabinet (Built-in) Elevations
One Last Thing…Consultants may need to provide a few more drawings:
Structural Engineer (I don’t make structural recommendations)
Surveyor
Energy Consultation (aka. Title 24 or ResCheck or CommCheck)
Building Scientist
Civil Engineer
Mechanical Engineer
Environmental Engineer
